Getaways reimagined: How to recreate a holiday at home

July 30, 2020 by Alicia Leave a Comment

While you may be used to jetting off on frequent foreign vacations, recreating the experience of a foreign holiday at home can be just as exciting and rewarding. To discover how you can recreate a holiday at home, simply continue reading.

Try out new cafes and restaurants in your city:

Instead of eating in, why not dine out at local restaurants that you’ve never visited before? Just like you would if you were on a regular holiday. You can even choose to find new eateries in areas of your city, which you’ve never experienced before. Alternatively you can also choose to order takeout from new restaurants that you’ve never tried before. If you don’t feel like dressing up and going out.

Try out new recipes during your staycation:

While you’re enjoying your staycation, you may want to try out different recipes from a wide variety of international cuisines. As an example one evening you may want to make your first green curry while the next day you may want to learn how to prepare a ceviche or paella. You could even spend a lazy morning preparing traditional French macarons.

Give your bedroom and wardrobe a makeover:

As you’ll save a lot of money holidaying at home, you’ll have extra money in your budget to give your wardrobe and bedroom a makeover. So that you’ll feel as if you’re staying in a stylish boutique hotel or a chic apartment. As examples, you may want to treat yourself to a new set of bedding and a few decorative throw cushions. Or you may want to purchase a new chair for your bedroom, where you’ll be able to read a book. Also invest in some holiday inspired clothing, such as mens casual trousers or womens chino shorts to compliment your staycation.

Attend a live show:

Instead of staying home in the evening, get out and attend a live show such as a stand up show, a professional play or a ballet performance. Especially if watching a live show is something that you often do on vacation.

Explore the museums in your city:

While you may explore foreign museums and art galleries, when you’re exploring a new city, you may have neglected the museums and art galleries in your own city. So it’s well worth spending a day exploring as many museums and art galleries as you can. Although if you fall in love with a particular museum or art gallery, feel free to spend the whole day exploring it from top to bottom.

Try a new activity:

As an example, you may want to hire a stand up paddle board to explore a local lake or you may want to sign up for a horse trek or a surf lesson. Alternatively, you may want to attend an Indian cooking class or a pottery class. The options are endless.

Explore your local market:

As no holiday is complete without picking up a souvenir to remember your experience, why not explore a local market where you’ll be able to find a unique souvenir to celebrate your staycation. Such as a hand made candle, a new bracelet or a handmade chopping board for your kitchen.

So if you’ve fallen in love with the idea of recreating the experience of an overseas holiday at home, make sure to use all of the handy staycation tips which are listed above as inspiration for your upcoming home based holiday.
